What Are Witches Runes?
Witches Runes are a form of divination that contains 13 symbols used to describe concepts. Though they can be bought, it is enjoyable, helps cement the meanings, and allows you to focus your intent when you create them on your own.
Unlike the Elder Futhark Runes, an alphabetic system; the Witches Runes consist of 13 common pictorial symbols in which most people can relate to, such as the sun, moon and star. They also have a more recent history. In the research I have conducted, there does not seem to be a clear understanding of exactly where or when these runes were developed. This, for me, makes their draw all the more magnetic.
The Meanings Behind Each Rune
Sun: A positive change in a situation, illumination, clarity, growth, happiness, joy, positivity, vitality and success,

How to make your own witches runes
Making Witches Runes can be as easy or complex as you wish.
When I made my first set, I asked my husband to cut discs from a very small tree branch that was in our woodpile. I sanded each disc then used a wood burning tool to burn the symbols into the disc. To help preserve my wooden runes, I melted beeswax and placed my discs into it. Once removed from the wax, I used a cloth to wipe the excess off of the runes and polish them.
For workshops, I actually buy the glass stones that are sold in craft stores for vase fillers and decoration purposes. With these, a fine tipped acrylic paint pen is used to draw the symbols. The symbols can also be drawn on healing crystals with an acrylic pen.
Small rocks or stones that are similar in size and shape which you have gathered yourself are also a great option!
However you choose to make your runes, there are also ways to preserve them. For wooden products, wax can be melted and applied, or another method is to coat them using a spray lacquer. A clear coat finishing spray or lacquer can also be used, if desired on painted rocks and gemstones.
As you cans see, the Witches Runes are fairly easy to make. You just want to use items that are relatively small and which you can apply the symbols on. Once that criteria is met, the sky is really the limit in creating a set that speaks to you.

Tips for learning through experience
1. Use your intuition to pick one rune in the morning. Before picking you may want to ask a question. Some examples are:
- " What can I expect today?'
- " What guidance can you offer me today?" - " What do I need to know today?"
After picking a rune, take notice to what your first reaction, thought or instinct is. Look at your keywords if needed and just note if any of them "feel"right. In the evening, reflect back over your day to see how the message or meaning occurred. For instance, say your rune of the day was Flight. You were planning to go home right after work. You get a text from a friend who happens to be in town and wants to meet to catch up. As you are reflecting on your day, note how the runes meaning (s) played out. You received information which changed your plans and most likely also involved a short trip (movement) to meet up with your friend.
2. The above method can also be used by letting your intuition pick a rune in the evening by asking to tell you something about your day.
3. Keep an open mind by not letting yourself get caught up in thinking a rune means something very specific when it may present to you in another way. This will allow your own experiences to help you relate to not only the "bigger" or "deeper" meanings, but to also incorporate daily, practical experiences in your interpretations. This will aid you in different scenarios. You will start to see the nuances of the meanings. This will also be helpful when you start reading multiple runes together to see how they are interacting.
4. Keeping in mind that each rune does carry positive and negative aspects as well as different "levels", as we discussed above, will also help you to get accustomed to not thinking the worst when a "negative" rune shows up in your reading. I once had the waves show up as my daily rune. I automatically associated this meant I would have an emotionally troubling day and thought the worst case scenario. What happened was this: 1. it was literally raining out (water). 2. At work, I was asked to do multiple things at the same time (pulled in different directions) and I needed to pause for a second to "get my footing" before taking action. 3. I actually laughed when I realized this was the confusing waves that I would be dealing with since it was a very minor scenario, yet the realization brought me a much "deeper" understanding.
5. Practicing Divination of any form is an amazing way to connect with yourself, gain new perspective, increase awareness and a connection with your beliefs. That being said, having fun is also is a valuable part of life. Don't be afraid to ask silly questions, laugh and have fun.
This makes learning not only enjoyable, but also allows your intuition to flow freely.... you will be surprised at some of the insights you can uncover this way!!
Enjoy the process
